…its not final but…

Our itinerary isn’t set yet, however, we are getting much closer.  Funny how destinations are still coming and going from the list.  Many times the conversations go something like this:

“I could really skip this country.  Let’s go to this one instead…it’s on the way anyway.”

“OK.”

What, no debate?  No endless hours of research?  No hour-long discussion of pros and cons?  Not really.  As we hone the itinerary, the options become clearer, priorities are refined, and sometimes we just guess.   Don’t get me wrong, once we decide on a country, lots of research kicks in, but the decision-making process is as much gut feel as it is scientific research.  Let’s just spin the globe and see where we land!

Here is a quick list of the places still on the itinerary:

  • New York City
  • Chile
  • Argentina
  • South Africa
  • Tanzania
  • Morocco
  • Jordan
  • Dubai
  • India
  • Bhutan
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Laos
  • Cambodia
  • Singapore
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Fiji or French Polynesia
  • Japan
  • China
  • Hong Kong
  • Turkey
  • Greece
  • Italy
  • Switzerland
  • France
  • Sweden
  • Boston

Whew!

We are spending quite a bit of time in Asia, for two main reasons. The first, and most important, is that we are fascinated by so many places there. Per and I traveled to China together 5 years ago (the trip that started this ball rolling) and could not get over how much more we wanted to see. We feel that way about the whole region…and it’s a big region! Our second reason is that it’s really far away. We can envision future trips to places like Costa Rica, South America and Europe during the girls’ school breaks (a little more than a week), while the travel time alone makes a trip to Japan or Thailand during a school break unlikely. So, while we’re in Asia, we want to see as much as we can!

Do you think I would fit in one of your suitcases?
